There are so many hair care products out in the market today
that department and
grocery stores have taken to assigning entire aisles for
hair products alone. Surely
there are specific brands that you'd just love to
try out. The only reason you
probably haven't tried them yet is because they
are quite expensive. That's why you
make do with what you can afford.
You don't always have to spend a lot of money just to make
sure your hair always
looks its best. If your budget doesn't have room for hair
products, you can always
whip up your own homemade hair mask. You won't need to
spend a lot for the
ingredients too, since most of them can be found right in
your kitchen.
Here are some hair mask recipes you can do, plus the
benefits that each concoction
can bring to your hair:
- Moisturizing Mask
-
1 glass whole milk
-
1 teaspoon honey
Stir the honey into the glass of milk and apply the mixture
on your hair from root to
tip. Massage on the scalp, too, for good measure.
Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse
off using lukewarm water.
-
mayonnaise
Many women have already been using mayonnaise as an
alternative hair mask for
dry hair. It's already in a perfect creamy
consistency, plus it is made primarily out
of egg whites. Egg whites are
abundant in protein, which in turn gives additional
nourishment to the hair
strands. They are also rich in vitamins A, D, and E.
-
1 dollop of your favorite shampoo
-
1 egg
Beat the egg in a bowl and add your usual dollop of shampoo.
Stir until the two
ingredients are well-mixed (not too intense to create
bubbles, though). Use this
mixture to shampoo your hair when you finally take a
bath. The egg will give
your hair additional moisture, pretty much like how
mayonnaise will do the same
thing. Also, don't use this mixture in a very hot
shower, otherwise the egg will get
cooked!
-
1 bowl of soft, coconut meat
Warm the coconut meat in your hands and massage it until you
have a gooey,
paste-like consistency. You'll notice that a little amount of oil
will also be
extracted while kneading the meat. This is natural coconut oil
that will also
give additional shine to your hair. Apply the coconut meat—along
with the
extracted oil and milk—on your hair and let sit for at least one hour.
Rinse
it off afterwards and wash hair with a mild shampoo to get rid of all the
meat.
- Mask for Silky, Smooth Hair
-
1 tablespoon oats
-
1 tablespoon fresh milk
-
1 tablespoon almond oil
In a bowl, mix all three ingredients to form a thick paste. Before
applying the mixture
on your hair, brush it out first to remove the tangles. It
will be easier to spread the
paste when it's smooth (or as smooth as it can
be). Make sure to massage the paste
on your scalp too. This is also a
moisturizing and anti-dandruff treatment too. Leave
the paste on for about 20
minutes before washing it off with water and mild shampoo.
-
1 avocado
-
1 tablespoon organic honey
Scoop out the flesh of the avocado fruit and mash it in a
bowl. Add in the honey. Mix
the ingredients until you have a smooth paste.
Apply this mask on your hair and leave
it there for 20 minutes or so. Rinse it
off with lukewarm water afterwards. Avocado is
rich in C, A, E, K, and B vitamins.
All these nutrients make the hair healthy. The gloss
from the honey gives hair
a natural sheen.
- Mask for Repairing Hair Damage
-
1/4 slice of avocado
-
1/2 slice of banana
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
Place all ingredients into a blender and process until
smooth. You can also manually
mash them, but you'll have a smoother consistency
if you use a blender. If you want
to use a food processor, use the lowest speed
and do it as briefly as possible. This
mask will give your hair a massive dose
of conditioning and moisture. Dry hair is
easier to break and get damaged, so
this mask will remedy that. All the ingredients
are packed with protein, vitamins
and antioxidants that help repair damaged hair.
- Mask for Oily Hair
-
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
-
1 lemon
Actually, you'll only need the skin of the lemon. Grate the
peels and mix them in the
cup containing the apple cider vinegar. Lather it
into oily hair and let sit for 15
minutes before rinsing. This mask is very
effective at removing excess oil from the
hair and scalp. It will also wash off
the residual gunk from various hair products.
You'll end up with clean,
fragrant, and soft hair.
As you can see, everything you may need for a hair mask can
actually be found in
your kitchen. You can even come up with something new. Do
a bit of research and
come up with your secret concoction. Your friends will
certainly wonder how you
maintain your healthy, beautiful hair without visiting
the salon.
